New Study Highlights Hidden Values of Open Ocean

NOAA scientists and researchers from the University of California San Diego have attempted to quantify the monetary value of several of the leading ecosystem services provided by the Eastern Tropical Pacific Ocean. These services include commercial and recreational fisheries, but also carbon capture and storage. Assigning dollar values to these benefits can help people understand and compare the value of complete ecosystems.
