Vera Trainer is an oceanographer with NOAA’s Northwest Fisheries Science Center. In this podcast, Trainer describes some of the measures that NOAA Fisheries and other agencies are taking to help coastal communities adapt to a changing future, which may bring more harmful algal blooms such as the one affecting the West Coast.

Memo: Keeping Our Fisheries Safe

Commercial fishing is one of the most dangerous occupations in the United States. To help promote safety in our fisheries, NOAA Fisheries announces a technical memorandum that provides tools to evaluate safety in fisheries. This memo includes a safety checklist to identify safety concerns and describes methods for conducting a risk assessment to help identify trends and safety hazards within a fishery.

Pacific Coast Groundfish Environmental Impacts – Open for Public Comment

By March 2, please submit your comments on NOAA Fisheries’ and the Pacific Fishery Management Council’s notice of intent to prepare an environmental impact statement for Amendment 28 to the Pacific Coast Groundfish Fishery Management Plan.

2016 Ocean Salmon Management Public Hearings

The Pacific Fishery Management Council published its annual notice of availability of reports, public meetings, and hearings for the 2016 ocean salmon fisheries. The Council will adopt management alternatives at their March meeting. They will then collect public comments on these alternatives through public hearings, and written comments are due April 3.
