The Department of Commerce and NOAA are announcing the appointments of 30 new and returning members to the eight regional fishery management councils that partner with NOAA Fisheries to manage ocean fish stocks. Twenty-nine of the new and reappointed council members will serve from August 11, 2018 through August 10, 2021. One newly appointed member is filling a vacant at-large seat on the Western Pacific Fishery management Council and this member will serve through August 10, 2020. Along with their colleagues, these new council members will help shape the science-based management of U.S. fisheries and continue the strong commitment to ending overfishing, rebuilding fish stocks and supporting sustainable fisheries and vibrant fishing communities.
