IUFoST Releases Summary Report of COVID-19 and Food Safety Extraordinary Roundtable Discussion

The IUFOST is a global food science and technology society consisting of 31 professional societies (including the Institute of Food Technologists; and representatives from WHO, FAO, UNDP and Cidex Alimentarius).

They conducted a round table discussion and their scientific discussion, which can be viewed here.

Food not packaging has not been implicated in the transmission of Corona virus (so far).  Covid19 has been identified as a zoonotic disease which means it is transferred among animals and humans.

To IUFoST Members, Colleagues and Friends,

Here is the Summary Report on the IUFoST/CIFST Extraordinary Roundtable Discussion, COVID-19 and Food Safety Implications,  Challenges and Solutions, held on 21 March 2020.  Also included is the programme, biographical detail of speakers and quotes. Comments, questions and further dissemination are welcome with attribution of source.  The International Science Council, the global scientific organization in which IUFoST is the  sole Food Science and Technology representative elected into membership, has now asked for permission to disseminate this information to all the national Academies of Science around the world as well as to their other members.

Support, reference materials  for all to use, active participation and insights are needed from every member of international Food Science and Technology in this critical time.
