Rick Ellery Merry
May 10, 1953 – December 12, 2022
“It saddens us to inform you that our brother Rick Merry has passed away suddenly on December 12, 2022. He leaves behind a loving wife Debi who he married as a young man just out of high school in 1972. He also leaves behind two Brothers Jim and Rob, two sisters Jan and Kathy, and one special brother/cousin Allen, plus numerous other cousins. Rick and Debi had no children but plenty of nephews and nieces from his siblings they didn’t lack in raising of kids they helped all of us and we thank them greatly. Jim and Rick worked side by side and were partners after taking over Holly Seafood in 2002 when our father Dick Merry passed away. They re-branded it a few years back and renamed it C Mark Seafood after its founding father Carl Marx Merry who started in business in 1923. Wow! – that’s 100 years and 50 of them Rick and Jim were partners working together as our grandfather had always planned as a family.
Not always seeing eye to eye but always heart to heart. Until we all meet again brother Rick swim on.. swim on.. if you knew Rick you know what that means.”
~ Kathy “little sis” Merry Filburn
“Rick was a pillar and bright light in the California Seafood Community. Rick’s history in the seafood industry made it possible for him to share compelling stories and knowledge on a daily basis. His reliable, honest, and friendly nature will be missed by all who worked with Rick over the years.”
