The Seafood Import Monitoring Program has been in place for more than four years. It monitors 13 species and species groups, comprising more than 1,100 individual species, to ensure the integrity of seafood entering the U.S. market. The risk-based framework complements the multiple tools the U.S. government employs to combat this issue by targeting species that are most vulnerable to IUU fishing and seafood fraud.
During the evaluation of the program, the Program will continue its regular operation, and the list of priority species subject to program requirements will remain unchanged. Additionally, NOAA Fisheries will continue to support industry and other stakeholders in program compliance during the review process.
Written feedback can be sent to: iuu.fishing@noaa.gov.
SIMP Support will continue to provide technical assistance for program compliance (simpsupport@noaa.gov).
