Norway’s seafood exports reached NOK 33 billion (£2.5bn) in 2023. The United States emerged as the largest non-processing market, with growing demand. The UK also increased its purchases from Norway. Poland and Denmark import substantial amounts for processing and re-export, constituting 37% of exports. In non-processing countries, the US topped the list, followed by France. American consumers spent NOK 13.7 billion (£1bn) on Norwegian seafood, mainly salmon. France and Spain also showed significant growth, paying NOK 11.8 billion (£885m) and NOK 8.8 billion (£660m) respectively. China’s market increased to NOK 8.5 billion (£650m). Scotland is a competitor; France leads in Scottish salmon sales. The UK bought NOK 8.6 billion (£645m) worth of seafood from Norway, including prawns, whitefish, and salmon, marking an 11% increase. Despite the conflict with Russia, Ukraine saw a notable increase in seafood purchases, with salmon and trout sales rising by 14%.
