Proposed Alabama bill would require restaurants, stores to display seafood origin

A bill introduced in Alabama proposes to mandate grocery stores and restaurants to disclose the country of origin of seafood they sell, aiming to support and protect the local seafood industry. Representative Chip Brown emphasizes the importance of informing consumers and promoting locally caught products. The legislation also requires businesses to specify whether seafood is wild-caught or farm-raised, with potential civil penalties for non-compliance. Similar measures exist in Louisiana, but enforcement challenges have been reported, with numerous citations issued but no fines imposed.
