The sustainable fisheries group CeDePesca is urging Mexican authorities to take immediate action in identifying and capturing those responsible for the murder of seafood industry leader Minerva Pérez Castro. She was killed on 8 July by three gunmen outside her company, Atenea del Mar, just hours after publicly denouncing illegal fishing, extortion, and cartel-related crimes.
Despite the severity of the attack, no new updates on the investigation have been provided since 10 July. CeDePesca’s Executive Director, Ernesto Godelman, condemned the lack of progress, stressing that impunity cannot prevail, and vowed to continue pressuring authorities until justice is served.
