RODA petitions US Supreme Court to review its case against Vineyard Wind

The Responsible Offshore Development Alliance (RODA) has appealed its case against the Vineyard Wind offshore wind project to the U.S. Supreme Court. RODA, representing commercial fishermen, initially sued in 2022 over federal approvals of the 800-megawatt project off the Massachusetts coast, arguing it harms the fishing industry. However, the lawsuit was dismissed in 2023 due to lack of standing, a decision later upheld by an appeals court. Now, RODA seeks a Supreme Court review, claiming the Secretary of Interior failed to properly consider the fishing industry’s needs under the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act. Fishermen have long voiced concerns that their input was ignored, with Rhode Island’s Fishermen’s Advisory Board resigning in protest in 2023, citing government bias toward wind developers.
