CDFW Webinar on Halibut Trawl Bycatch Evaluation – October 15

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is inviting commercial fishing stakeholders to an online webinar focused on evaluating bycatch in the California halibut trawl fishery.

As part of the Marine Life Management Act Master Plan, CDFW is tasked with assessing bycatch across state fisheries, beginning with the halibut trawl and set gillnet sectors. The agency has already held two public meetings and is now turning its attention to the data sources that will inform the halibut trawl bycatch evaluation.

The upcoming webinar will review available datasets, discuss how they may be applied to evaluating bycatch acceptability, and provide an opportunity for stakeholders to share input, ask questions, and raise concerns.
