Monterey Bay Aquarium has launched CSARP+ at the Global Seafood Expo in Barcelona, aiming to reduce antibiotic use by Chilean farmed salmon companies. This initiative builds on previous efforts to enhance environmental sustainability within the Chilean salmon industry. Farmed salmon from Chile is a significant import to the U.S., but its high antibiotic use poses risks to both the environment and human health. CSARP+ recognizes and incentivizes companies leading in antibiotic reduction efforts. By maintaining CSARP+ status, companies commit to yearly reduction targets, data sharing, continuous improvement, and collaboration. The founding members include major Chilean salmon producers, with hopes of expanding membership in the future. CSARP+ aligns with the Aquarium’s dedication to ocean health and sustainable food production through collaboration with industry and governments globally.
