We are sad to tell you about the passing of Leo Pearlstein on Wednesday, September 10th, just a few weeks shy of his 105th birthday. To many of us he was a gentle yet powerful lion in the seafood industry as a tireless advocate for seafood and friend of CFSI. His pioneering public relations and promotional skills were legendary. He celebrated 50 years in the public relations field in 2000. He was known to many as the nation’s unofficial “king of culinary public relations.” He authored two entertaining books, “Celebrity Stew” and “Recipes of the Stars.”
His sons said in a posting, “Even though we knew this day would eventually come, it is still a shock to all of us. His greatest joys were family, his pioneering and award-winning career in public relations and marketing, and his love of playing the drums. He will be missed by all who knew him”.
In 1991 Leo was presented with the industry’s highest recognition and respect, making him a Honorary Lifetime Member of the California Fisheries and Seafood Institute.
