At a time when domestic seafood transparency, sustainability, and support for American fishermen are at the forefront of national conversations, California has a unique opportunity to take center stage.
The California Fisheries and Seafood Institute (CFSI) is excited to share an exclusive invitation from the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board: California is being called upon to send our finest culinary talent to compete in the 2026 Great American Seafood Cook-Off (GASCO).
Held from July 25–26, 2026, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana (alongside the Louisiana Restaurant Association Showcase), GASCO is one of the nation’s premier culinary competitions. It brings together top chefs from across the country to showcase the seafood, culture, flavors, and culinary identity that make their home states unique.
We want to see a talented California chef step up to the plate, showcase the incredible, world-class ingredients harvested by our state’s commercial fisheries, and compete for the national title of Great American Seafood Cook-Off Champion.
Why Participate? Massive National Exposure
This isn’t just a prestigious competition – it is a powerful platform to promote California’s seafood industry and culinary tourism. The event generates massive media attention; the 2025 cook-off garnered over 7 million media impressions across national television, digital publications, culinary press, and influencer networks. Participating chefs and their home states receive tremendous visibility, putting a national spotlight on the hardworking fishermen and vibrant seafood traditions of the West Coast.
Exclusive Perks for the First 13 Confirmed Chefs
To help support travel and participation, the Great American Seafood Cook-Off is offering a special incentive package for the first 13 chefs to lock in their spot:
- A $1,000 participation stipend
- Complimentary hotel accommodations in New Orleans
- Extensive national media exposure and culinary promotion opportunities
- A chance to compete for the ultimate title of GASCO Champion
Because several states have already committed, organizers are looking to secure California’s representation quickly. This event is a magnificent opportunity to celebrate our coastal bounty, support our local domestic seafood industry, and show the rest of the nation what California culinary excellence is all about.
