On August 20, 2015 the Ocean Protection Council (OPC), California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), and NMFS hosted a meeting focused on sharing information and exploring ways to reduce the risk of entanglements in the California Dungeness crab fishery.
A summary of key themes that emerged from the August 20 discussion is now available on the OPC’s webpage.
Over the coming weeks, additional summaries will be made available as a Working Group begins to discuss and develop short-term strategies and explore long-term options for reducing the risk of whale entanglements in California Dungeness crab fishing gear. Recommendation(s) that may be developed by the Working Group will be made available to CDFW, NMFS, and the Dungeness Crab Task Force for review and consideration.
