Record Sea Lion Strandings Linked to Food Limitations

Large numbers of underweight California sea lion pups have stranded along the Southern California coast in recent years. A new study by NOAA Fisheries scientists and partners finds that the combination of booming populations of sea lions and declining amounts of their highest calorie prey near their breeding rookeries may be to blame.
