The International Pole and Line Foundation (IPNLF)has welcomed major tuna supplier and tuna brand developer Tri Marine as one of its newest supply chain members, the non-profit association announced on 22 April.
The privately-owned Tri Marine, which got its start as a business back in 1972 in Singapore, has grown into one of the largest tuna supply companies in the world, and is “recognized as a leader in sustainable and socially responsible fishing and processing,” IPNLF said.
The vertically-integrated company’s global operations include National Fisheries Developments Ltd, a Solomon Islands subsidiary that owns and operates both pole-and-line and purse seine fishing vessels. Tri Marine also holds two Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certifications for tuna, including one that covers the Solomon Islands pole-and-line fishery, and is a TUNACONS Fisheries Improvement Project (FIP) participant in the Eastern Pacific Ocean…
