Consumers buy more seafood as meat prices rise

The newest numbers from Nielsen Total US dollar sales data show that grocery sales are continuing to slow compared to previous weeks.

Although still elevated, instore consumer packaged goods sales (CPG) for food and beverage in the United States were up 11.7% the week ending on May 30, compared to 13.9% the week prior and 15.2% the week before that. During the same week, online food sales were up 52.6%.

Within departments, patterns from previous weeks held with seafood remaining the most elevated category for the fourth week in the row, followed by frozen and meat, while prices continued to rise. Overall food prices were up 6% for the week…
