The Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Act, a legislative measure that threatens to impose severe costs across the consumer seafood supply industry and many other sectors of the California economy. We sincerely thank everyone for their continued advocacy on this issue, with a special thanks to those who responded to our previous calls to action.
However, this call to action is specifically directed toward the California State Senate. They are a critical component needed to secure a pause on this implementation, and while CFSI is pushing hard in Sacramento, we need ALL OF YOU to put pressure on them as well.
As a reminder, our industry does not object to the overarching concept of an Extended Producer Responsibility program. What we do object to is this specific structure, an opposition shared by most commercial industries, several environmental groups, and segments of the organized labor community.
Given the estimated $78 billion burden the business community faces, alongside the failure of SB 54 to meet its own recycling targets, it is imperative that you reach out to your state senator and advocate for a necessary pause.
Take Action Now:
Please take one minute to send a message directly to your state senators urging them to PAUSE SB 54 (view letter template here). To check who represents your area or view official legislative resources, access the California State Senate page.
